The writer of the Parents.com blog To the Max asked parents which toys most benefited their kids with special needs this past year. These toys have encouraged children to move, communicate, manipulate their hands, be social -- and have lots of fun too.

"I saw this at Target and fell in love," says Jennifer, mom to Joey, 2, who has Down syndrome. "It has helped Joey learn to release objects. He loves putting all sorts of objects in it. It helps him focus (which helps strengthen his vision) and, when we put it on the table, it motivates him to try to stand up. I love watching Joey try to put in the dog's toys, which don't fit -- a wonderful lesson in cause and effect!"
